Judges of the International Criminal Court of The Hague, Georgian and Foreign Professors Visited the Supreme Court

On September 25, 2023, judges of the International Criminal Court from The Hague - Georgian Judge Gocha Lordkipanidze, French Judge Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, Canadian Judge Kimberly Prost, British Judge Joanna Korner; as well as esteemed professors of criminal law from Germany, Great Britain, and Georgia - Prof. Dr. Julia Geneuss from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Prof. Dr. Annette Weinke from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Prof. Dr. Stefanie Bock from the Philipps University Marburg, Dr. Mayeul Hiéramente from Hamburg, Barrister Adetokunbo Hussain from London, Prof. Dr. Edward Schramm from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Prof. Dr. Boris Burghardt from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Giorgi Dgebuadze from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University met the Criminal Law Chamber chairman of the Supreme Court of Georgia - Shalva Tadumadze, as well as chamber judges Levan Tevzadze and Nino Sandodze.

 

The meeting was dedicated to introducing the role of the Supreme Court of Georgia in the judicial system, along with an overview of the Supreme Court's historical background. The delegation representatives were provided with information regarding the activities of the Criminal Law Chamber, its authority, the cases under the court’s consideration, and the current criminal law legislation in Georgia.

 

As part of the meeting, a discussion took place regarding Georgia's cooperation with the International Criminal Court, the determination of the Court's jurisdiction, and the existing challenges.

 

The Judges of the International Criminal Court from the Hague, along with Georgian and foreign professors, were in Tbilisi to participate in an international scientific conference and summer school organized within the scientific project of the Volkswagen Foundation - “The Role of International Criminal Law in Georgia”.
